Sheila Hicks is an American born artist who works predominantly with large scale textiles. Working in both Two and three-dimensional formats hicks creates a variety of tapestries and soft sculptures using fibers. Hicks use of colour is a massively important part of her work, she constantly observes colours and is drawn to the ones she finds most powerful. She believes the insensitive use of colour is damaging our enviroment. Shes influenced by how colour can make you feel and how seeing these colours on such a large scale can effect you. Hicks is also interested in the cross over between art and architecture and how her pieces fit into a space and can become one with it. Especially in recent works and exhibitions she has began to use textile elements within the very walls of where she is exhibiting.
