Maximo Laura is a peruvian textile artist and tapestry weaver. He is a fifth generation weaver and began learning how to weave at the age of 9, however he studied painting which has a great influence on his practice especially colour and composition. Laura's work if influenced by the rich traditions rituals and iconography of his upbringing incorporated with contemporary visual arts.Symbolic narratives have a strong place within his pieces which are incorporated with the bold colours and strong geometric patterns both influenced by Andean culture. Laura's work influences mine in terms of his use of colour and imagery, im extremely drawn to bold colours iconography from different countries and religions around the world to combine them into my interpretation of spirituality in my work. I also am inspired by the simplified forms within his work.
