I decided to experiment with frottage in order to get patterns and shapes which could translate into print. I began using charcoal but I felt that it was too fragile so I couldn’t really pick up the textures using that material so I reverted to using oil pastels. Also, I don’t feel that charcoal is a very cohesive material with the rest of my practice as my work is usually full of very bold bright colours especially warm tones. Whereas I feel like my practice and style coincide more if I use oil pastels for frottage. The frottage I created was mainly from industrial and man made environments but I’d like to do more from natural environments such as tree bark. I would also like to experiment more bringing frottage into my mixed media pieces such as with pencil surfaces or even my photo montage mixed media pieces.
