Throughout Dorothea Tannings practice her dark and surreal scenes and creatures she creates really resonate with my own practice. Her ability to use figurative elements in scenes and out of place objects varying in size and scale are really effective in creating eerie uncanny scenes which is something I have tried to incorporate into my paintings. Tannings work with soft sculpture has inspired me to incorporate soft sculpture/ 3D elements into my paintings next semester and bring the 2D into 3D which I thought would intertwine well with the concepts I have been exploring in my work so far.
