Caroline Achaintre

Achiantre works in a variety of media including textiles print and ceramics often using materials associated with applied art. Her influences include german expressionism along with the concept of the european carnival and primitivism. Her smaller pieces using ink, watercolour and print often inspire her large-scale tufted pieces for which she is known. Like my own her work hovers between the two and three-dimensional. To create her large-scale pieces she uses a tufting gun that would be most commonly used to make carpets with. She likes to give her pieces a quality that makes them seem like they werent made for the gallery but have a life of their own.Her work also plays with the contradiction between abstraction and figuritivism.
