Out of my initial character designs I found that the bird like creatures were the ones that were the most effective. So, I decided to develop my memory creatures as humanoid bird like creatures. I began by doing a large oil pastel development drawing of one of my designs on canvas while also including paint to get a firm hold on what I was envisioning. Then I began to create him out of cardboard, I began cutting pieces instinctively like the surrealists would draw automatically in order to create the most authentic fluid design for what I was creating. I really like the way the bird creature turned out with his bulbous ‘ubu roi’ body and his mismatched limbs and decided to take his form back into drawing to see how it translated and surrounded the creature I had made instinctively with automatic drawings.
