Alice Kettle creates Large scale textile pieces often considered tapestries however kettle doesn't consider them tapestries as they are a lot less structured. Kettle is very engaged with story telling within her pieces which an often involve mysticism. She describes her work as an illustrative journey of a story while using thread to support that process. Her work straddles the boundaries between fine art and craft which she is very interested in as she did her BA in Fine art but her MA in textile art.Kettle likes to explore the fact that textiles and sewing throughout history have been associated with women and femininity and likes to tell the stories of strong women through their work. She also uses left over scraps of materials that may usually been thrown away in her studio and brings them into her pieces. The colours in her pieces are often inspired by historical paintings but brought into a new context.
